TRIZ is the Theory of Solving Inventive Problems (a Russian acronym for Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadach). Created by Genrich Altshuller starting in 1946, it is a science-based methodology designed to replace the inefficient “trial-and-error” method of innovation with a systematic, algorithmic approach. TRIZ is based on the premise that inventiveness and creativity are not innate gifts reserved for a lucky few, but skills that can be taught and learned by anyone.
